Firedogs Take Little III With Wins Over Wesleyan, Williams|

MIDDLETOWN, CT - Amherst College improved to 24-4 and claimed the 2000 Little III Championship with a pair of non-league volleyball wins over NESAC rivals Wesleyan University and Williams College on Saturday.
Junior setter Meredith Demeules (Los Angeles, CA) had 40 assists and seven kills as the Firedogs topped host Wesleyan 15-10, 14-16, 15-12 and 15-6 in the opener. Sophomore middle hitter Erin Dittus (Brentwood, TN) and junior outside hitter Erica Hewes (Woodside, CA) added 20 and 17 kills, respectively, while sophomore middle hitter Emily Ratcliff (Storrs, CT) posted 11 digs on defense.
In the nightcap, DeMeules cracked the fifty assist barrier for the fifth time this season to go along with six kills in a 15-5, 15-6, 12-15, 12-15, 15-13 win over Williams. Hewes added a match-high 23 kills, while senior Co-captain Liza Abeles (Santa Fe, NM) added six putaways. Fellow senior Co-captain Carrie Snyder (Bonita, CA) also had 13 digs.
Amherst will seek its second consecutive NESCAC Championship at the 2000 Conference Tournament this Friday through Sunday at Bowdoin College. The third-seeded Firedogs will take on the winner of the Tufts-Bowdoin quarterfinal matchup on Friday, after drawing a bye past the first round.
