Firedogs Sweep Smith 3-0|

AMHERST, MA - Sophomore middle hitter Emily Ratcliff (Storrs, CT) had a match-high 13 kills to go along with six digs and three service aces as Amherst College swept non-league foe Smith College 15-2, 15-7 and 15-9 in women's volleyball on Thursday night.
Junior setter Meredith DeMeules (Los Angeles, CA) set the tone with 25 assists and 11 digs, both match highs, while junior outside hitter Erica Hewes (Woodside, CA) added 11 kills in 18 total attacks for a .556 hitting percentage. Senior outside hitter Liza Abeles (Santa Fe, NM) also had eight kills as Amherst improved to 22-4 on the season. Smith fell to 7-19 with the loss.
Amherst finished its regular-season slate ranked third in the region behind Wellesley College and conference rival Middlebury, earning the third seed in the upcoming NESCAC Tournament with an 8-2 conference mark. The Firedogs open postseason play on Friday, Nov. 3 at Bowdoin College, taking on the winner of a NESCAC Tournament matchup between Bowdoin and Tufts University.
