Cross Country Teams Excell at UMass-Dartmouth

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA. Š Amherst's women placed second while the men finished eighth as the Lord Jeff cross country teams ran at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday.
The Lady Jeffs narrowly missed catching eventual champion Brandeis University, who finished with a total time of 1:33:51 in the 5,000 meter womenÕs race. Amherst was less than a minute off the pace at 1:34:33.
Junior Diana Rancourt led the way with a fourth place finish (18:07) while senior Katie Famous (19:00), first-year standout Alyson Venti (19:02) and junior Rebecca Woo (19:07) finished 20th, 23rd and 26th, respectively.
Additionally, sophomore Alison Diamon finished 32nd (19:17), junior Molly Burnett finished 34th (19:20) and sophomore Emily Dubinsky finished 57th (19:50).
In the menÕs 8,045 yard race, AmherstÕs total time of 2:15:18 was just off the winning pace of 2:09:40 posted by NESCAC rival Trinity College.
Junior Nathaniel Robinson was the top Jeffs finisher with a time of 26:24 Š good for 23rd place. Additionally, first-year standout John Stanton-Geddes finished 47th (27:09), sophomore Alex Lenkoski finished 51st (27:13), fellow rookies Justin DiVenuta and Michael Page came in consecutively at 53rd (27:15) and 54th (27:17), junior Ben Kozyak finished 67th (27:36), and junior Albert Lee placed 88th at 28:30.
The Amherst cross country teams return to action on Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Codfish Bowl (Franklin Park) in Boston at 11 a.m.
