Amherst Women 16th at NCAA Championship

SPOKANE, WA - The Amherst College women's cross country team finished 16th in its first-ever appearance in the Division III Cross Country Championships, hosted by Whitworth College at the Wandermere Golf Course on Saturday.

First-team All-NESCAC and NESCAC All-Academic junior Katie Scangos (Hillsborough, CA) led the way with a 16th place finish, covering the 5k course in 18:34, as the Jeffs placed seven runners in the top-160. Elsewhere in the pack, senior Katie Famous (Tualitin, OR) finished 63rd at 19:22, while juniors Molly Burnett (Norwich, CT), Emily Lobsenz (Fairfield, CT) and Rebecca Woo (Manchester, NH) finished 77th, 92nd and 142nd, respectively.

Freshman Erinn White (Watertown, MA) and junior Diana Rancourt (Saline, MI) placed consecutively at 158th and 159th to round out Amherst finishers.

NESCAC rival Middlebury College won the meet with 103 points, just ahead of Williams College with 123. Junior Johanna Olson of Luther College won the individual crown with a time of 17:54.
