Jeffs Take Third at Tufts

NORTH GRAFTON, MA - The Amherst College men's and women's cross country teams each finished third at the Tufts Invitational at the Farm Course on Saturday.
The Lady Jeffs finished just behind Williams College and eventual winner Middlebury with a total time of 1:38:49. Junior Diana Rancourt (Lunenberg, MA) paced Amherst for the fourth consecutive meet, covering the 5,000-meter course in 19:28 - good for 12th place. Meanwhile, junior Molly Burnett (Norwich, CT) finished 17th with a time of 19:37, while sophomore Alison Dimon (Rye, NY) finished 23rd at 19:46, junior Emily Lobsenz (Fairfield, CT) placed 25th at 19:50 and newcomers Erinn White (Watertown, MA) and Alyson Venti (Newton, MA) finished 30th and 37th at 20:07 and 20:18, respectively. Junior Rebecca Woo (Manchester, NH) rounded out AmherstÕs top-seven with a 40th place finish (20:35).
On the men's side, Williams College ran away from the field with a total time of 2:12:20, ahead of host Tufts at 2:14:04 and Amherst at 2:20:33. Newcomer Michael Page (Fargo, ND) paced the Jeffs in 14th place with a time of 27:45, while classmate John Stanton-Geddes (Glendale, MO) finished 17th with a time of 27:52. Other Amherst standouts included junior Nathaniel Robinson (Cranston, RI) in 24th (28:10), sophomore Alex Lenkoski (Wethersfield, CT) in 27th (28:18), sophomore Carson Taylor (South Windsor, CT) in 28th (28:26), sophomore Brett Richey (Pittsburgh, PA) in 31st (28:34) and first-year harrier Justin DeVenuta (Chester, NJ) in 33rd (28:44).
Springfield College's Barbara Swallow won the women's race with a time of 18:26. Dusty Lopez of Williams took the men's 8,000-meter run at 25:57.
The Amherst men's and women's cross country teams return to action at the New England Championships at Franklin Park in Boston, on Friday, October 13.
