Perry Nets Hat-Trick as Amherst Hammers M.I.T. 5-0|
October 2, 2000
AMHERST, MA - First-year standout Franklin Perry (Hartford, CT) notched his first career hat-trick while classmate Andrew Korytoski (Northampton, MA) added a goal and an assist as Amherst College punished visiting non-league foe M.I.T. 5-0 on Monday. The Jeffs improved to 5-2-1 with the win.
Perry ripped a shot from the top of the box 11:19 into the game after a nifty feed from sophomore midfielder Carlo Valdesolo (Andover, MA) to put the Jeffs up 1-0. He also scored twice in the second half, connecting on a crossing-pass from senior Charles Franklin (Avon, CT) at the 46:34 mark and scorching a shot from the right side in the game’s final minute, assisted by Korytosky. Perry now leads the Jeffs with six goals on the season.
Korytosky's goal came 34 minutes into the game off a header from sophomore Christopher Kane (Marblehead, MA). Newcomer Vivian Johnson (Kingston, Jamaica) also scored unassisted from 18 yards out just before the end of the first-half.
Amherst goalies Bill Orum (Greenwich, CT), Anders Watson (Chicago, IL) and Matt Margolis (Short Hills, NJ) combined for the shutout - the Jeffs fifth of the season. M.I.T. goalie Ken Jin tallied three saves for the Engineers, who fell to 2-4-1 with the loss.
