Jeffs Blank Conn College 2-0
September 27, 2000

AMHERST, Mass. - Junior Amherst College striker Dave Michener (Eden Prairie, MN) knocked a shot off the right post in the 61st minute, and first-year Franklin Perry (Hartford, CT) added a chip-in in the 87th minute, as the Jeffs defeated visiting Connecticut College, 2-0, in Saturday's NESCAC showdown.

After a back-and-forth first half in which the Jeffs had the better part of the scoring opportunities, the hosts took over in the second half, leading up to Michener's conversion of a feed from first-year striker Jeff Cantwell (Randolph, NJ) in the 61st minute. Michener's goal-a blast off the post that eluded diving Camel goalie Sean LaBrie (Yarmouth, ME)-proved to be the game-winner, as the Amherst defense, led by backs Ryan Goodband (Needham, MA) and Casey Ryan (Guilford, CT), clamped down in the second half. Junior Jeff goalie Bill Orum (Greenwich, CT) was only called on to make three saves as the Camels struggled in the offensive end.

After continued Amherst possession in the midfield, the Jeffs put the game away in the 87th minute, after LaBrie mistimed his challenge of a long ball to Perry, leaving an open net for the rookie's chip-in.

With the win, the Jeffs (3-1-1, 2-1 NESCAC) snap a two-game winless streak, extending their unbeaten streak against Connecticut to six games. Next up for Amherst is another NESCAC matchup, a Wednesday afternoon date in Medford, Mass. against the Tufts University Jumbos. The Camels (3-2, 1-2 NESCAC) are next in action tomorrow, when they travel to Middlebury College for a 1:00 p.m. start. Saturday, September 23, 2000, at Hitchcock Field, Amherst, Mass.
