Michener Salvages 2-2 Tie at Wheaton
October 11, 2000

NORTON, MA - Amherst college junior forward David Michener (Eden Prairie, MN) connected on a pair of second half goals, including a score off a free kick in the 90th minute, as the Jeffs salvaged a 2-2 tie at Wheaton College on Wednesday.

With the host Lyons up 2-0 and controlling the action midway through the second half, Amherst caught a break when Michener rocketed a right-footed penalty shot past Wheaton keeper Craig Evans in the 79th minute.

Down a goal with under a minute remaining, Michener struck again, this time on a dramatic free kick from 30 yards out in the waning seconds of regulation. Michener's dramatic scores tied him for the team-lead with six goals on the season, matching first-year phenom Franklin Perry.

Junior goalie Bill Orum (Greenwich, CT) had four saves on the afternoon as the Jeffs moved to 5-3-2 on the season. Evans finished with eight saves for the 9-2-1 Lyons.

Amherst returns to action against NESCAC rival Williams College this Saturday at 11 a.m. at Hitchcock Field.
