BOSTON, MA - Just days after earning New England Small College Athletic Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors for his role in Amherst College's 20-12 Homecoming win over Williams, senior defensive back and Tri-captain Brian Daoust (Dover, MA) was also awarded the Coca Cola Gold Helmet Award as the Division III New England College Football Player of the Week on Wednesday at Harvard Stadium's Dillon Field House.
Daoust had three interceptions, five tackles and a pass-breakup against Williams as Amherst topped the Ephs for the first time since 1986, earning its first outright Little Three Title (decided annually between Amherst, Williams and Wesleyan) in 14 years and clinching a share of the NESCAC Championship with a 7-1 record.
With Amherst leading by eight points in the fourth quarter and the game far from over (Amherst held fourth-quarter leads in three of the last four meetings between the two teams - all Williams wins), Daoust, who had already picked off passes in the second and third quarters, came up with one more pick on the Ephs' first play of a potential game-tying drive, outleaping Williams wide receiver Collin Vataha at midfield to seal Amherst's biggest win in nearly two decades.
Daoust, who also captains the Amherst men's basketball team, finished his career with 16 interceptions in four seasons as a starter.
