AMHERST, MA - Amherst College senior defensive back Brian Daoust (Dover, MA) was named a Third-Team Division III Football All-American by D3football.com, the definitive national on-line resource for Division III college football. The two-year tri-captain was one of only two selections from the New England Small College Athletic Conference, along with Trinity College offensive lineman Michael Carucci, a fellow third-team selection.
Daoust finished his career with a school-record 17 interceptions in four seasons as a starter and led Amherst to arguably its biggest football victory in 14 years, a 20-12 homecoming win over archrival Williams College on Saturday, Nov. 11. He had three interceptions, five tackles and a pass-breakup against Williams as the Jeffs earned their first outright Little Three Title (decided annually between Amherst, Williams and Wesleyan University) in 14 years and clinched a share of the NESCAC Championship with a 7-1 record.
"He is without question one of my favorite players I've ever coached," said Amherst Head Coach E.J. Mills. "He's so mentally tough and leads by example every day on and off the field. You just know heÕs going to get the job done."
Daoust earned NESCAC Player of the Week honors and the Coca-Cola Gold Helmet Award after dominating the Ephs and was a First-Team All-NESCAC, All-ECAC and New England Sports Writers All-Region Division II-III post-season selection.
He is also a starting guard and tri-captain on the Amherst men's basketball team, where he was named the NESCAC Player of the Week after scoring a career-high 39 points against visiting Clark University on Wednesday, Nov. 29. He currently leads the 6-1 Jeffs in scoring at 17.9 points per game while shooting a scorching 51.0 percent (26-for-51) from beyond the three-point arc.
