2000 Season Preview
Despite the departure of the winningest class in program history - Tyra Gettleman, Aleni Pappas, Alie Stechenberg, Darcy Sweeney and Tiffany Waskowicz - the depth of returning players on the 2000 field hockey team brings optimism and excitement for the upcoming season. With a highly competitive NESCAC schedule, as well as top non-conference teams in the lineup, the squad will strive to achieve success and build upon the confidence gained by last season's NCAA experience.

On offense, the team will look to juniors Robin Ackerman and Marcy Busch to lead the way, along with returners Heidi Kahrl, Julia Claggett, Carlyn Lamia, Jenna Obelsky and Abby Ouimet. In the midfield, senior co-captain and first-team All-American Gretchen Bowe and fellow co-captain Mairin Brady '02 return to provide stellar leadership and skill, along with sophomores Kristin Harrison and Katherine Ryan. In the backfield, junior starters Anne Close and Laurie Smith return, and Amherst will look to sophomores Elizabeth Hawkins, Jane Klinger and Molly O'Connor to fill the holes. In goal, junior standout Beth Sensing returns, along with classmate Catherine Deibel. A talented group of incoming first-year players will bring even more depth to the team, as they look to repeat the unparalleled success of the 1999 squad.
