AMHERST, MA - Shortly after earning All-New England Small College Athletic Conference and All-Region honors, Amherst College field hockey players Gretchen Bowe (Hampstead, NH) and Mairin Brady (Bethesda, MD/Chevy Chase) were named AstroTurf Division III All-Americans by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
Bowe, a senior midfielder and co-captain, posted a team-high 19 points on seven goals and five assists as Amherst's lone senior, despite missing the last five games of the season after sustaining a knee injury in a 1-0 overtime win over arch-rival Williams College on Oct. 14. She was also the NESCAC Player of the Year this season, after earning First-Team All-NESCAC, NFHCA First-Team All-America and NCAA All-Tournament honors as a junior.
Meanwhile Brady, a junior midfielder and fellow co-captain, helped lead the Jeffs to the semifinals of the NESCAC Tournament and their third NCAA Tournament appearance with five goals, four assists and three defensive saves in the squad's 14 regular-season games.
Brady, who was named to the 1999 NCAA All-Tournament team along with Bowe, also had an assist in the Jeffs' 2-1 win over Middlebury College in the first round of the NESCAC Tournament on Oct. 24.
Amherst finished its season with a 14-3 record, ranked 10th in the final 2000 STX/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll.
