Amherst's DeMais Named NESCAC Volleyball Player of the Week

November 6 , 2006

AMHERST, MA – Amherst College junior outside hitter Jaclyn DeMais (Hillsdale, NJ) was named the volleyball NESCAC Player of the Week for her outstanding play in the NESCAC Championship Tournament; she led the Jeffs to their first title since 2000. The third-seeded Jeffs beat sixth-seeded Trinity College, second-seeded Wesleyan University and first-seeded and host Williams College in the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals, respectively, to take home the crown.

DeMais played outstanding volleyball through the three games in as many days. She recorded 13 kills and 14 digs against Trinity in the quarterfinals; 23 kills, three aces and a block in the semifinals against Wesleyan; and 18 kills and 26 digs in the championship match against Williams, giving her an average of 18 kills-per-match for the tournament.

Several members of the Amherst squad had exceptional tournaments, but DeMais stood out above the rest, playing brilliantly all-around to lead her team to victory against three teams that had defeated the Jeffs at some point earlier in the season.

DeMais and the rest of the Lord Jeffs return to action Thursday night at 6 p.m., when they will face Emmanuel College in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge.
