CLINTON, NY – The Amherst College volleyball team picked up its 23rd win of the season Friday night, defeating Middlebury College in three games to improve to 6-3 in conference play and 23-4 overall.  Middlebury dropped its fifth straight game, falling to 12-14 on the season.

Despite the loss, Middlebury was able to hang with Amherst for most of the night, forcing the Jeffs to score 33 points in the second game after keeping it close for a 30-26 loss in the first. The Lord Jeffs were able to put the Panthers away in the close games, and won a more convincing third game, 30-23, continuing Middlebury’s struggles as of late.

Leading the way for the Lord Jeffs were junior outside hitters Jaclyn DeMais (Hillsdale, NJ) and Whitney Kouvaris (Jacksonville, FL), who finished with 17 kills and 15 kills, respectively. Junior setter Sara Heller (La Canada, CA) was consistent as usual, racking up 42 assists on the night.

This is the 12th season in which head coach Sue Everden has led her team to at least 23 wins, a total that she and the Lord Jeffs will look to add to tomorrow night when Amherst concludes the regular season at Hamilton College in day two of the NESCAC quad. Amherst will face Hamilton at 8:00 p.m.
