October 10, 2006

WESTFIELD, MA – The Amherst College women’s volleyball team moved to 17-1 (3-1 NESCAC), with a non-conference win over Westfield State College on Tuesday evening. The Jeffs toppled the Owls of Westfield State three games to none, dropping them to 10-12 on the season. The win is the 12th in a row for the Jeffs, who are currently ranked 2nd in New England.

Amherst was led offensively by senior standout Kristin Quinn (Pacific Palisades, CA), who racked up 13 kills on the evening. Adding eight kills each was junior outside hitter Jaclyn DeMais (Hillsdale, NJ) and Whitney Kouvaris (Jacksonville, FL). Sarah Heller (La Canada, CA) was the catalyst of the offense once again, as she doled out an impressive 30 assists in the three short games.

The Jeffs ousted the Owls in short fashion, winning the match 30-19, 30-23, 30-15, in just over an hour of play. Head Coach Sue Everden and assistant Dan O’Shea ’07 have the team off to one of the best starts in school history, as they enter a final month of play heavy with NESCAC action.

Amherst returns to action Friday, October 13 when they travel to rival Tufts University for a NESCAC quad.
