Jeffs Roll to Title at Roger Williams Invitational

BRISTOL, RI – Junior standout Jaclyn DeMais (Hillsdale, NJ) took home MVP honors and senior Kristin Quinn (Los Angeles, CA) and sophomore Sara Heller (La Canada, CA) each nabbed all-tournament plaudits as the Amherst volleyball team swept Rivier College, the University of New England and host Roger Williams University at the Roger Williams Invitational on Saturday.

Quinn and DeMais were both outstanding in the day’s opening match against the host Hawks, leading the Jeffs to a 30-17, 30-18, 30-14 victory. Both hit the double-digit mark in the kill column, registering 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Heller dished out 32 assists, while junior Whitney Kouvaris (Jacksonville, FL) chipped in six kills, and sophomores Hannah Wirth (Pacific Palisades, CA) and Alison Munzer (Los Angeles, CA) added five and four kills, respectively.

In match two, Kouvaris led the charge with 13 kills in a 30-28, 30-18, 30-17 win over Rivier. Heller dealt 39 assists in the victory, feeding nine to DeMais, seven to Quinn, six to Munzer and four to Wirth. The Jeffs’ dominance continued in their final match of the day, quickly disposing of the University of New England, 30-10, 30-19, 30-14. DeMais posted a team-high nine kills in the win, while Quinn, Munzer and fellow sophomore Claire Holton-Basaldua (San Rafael, CA) had six kills apiece. Heller finished the tournament with a 31-assist performance, giving her 102 for the day.

Amherst returns to action Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at non-conference opponent Keene State College.
