Menezes, Berckes Advance to National Semifinals
May 19, 2007
FREDERICKSBURG, VA – The Amherst College women’s tennis doubles pair of junior Alicia Menezes (Staten Island, NY) and first-year Brittany Berckes (Secaucus, NJ) advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Women’s Tennis Doubles Championship Tournament with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Stephanie Kurti and Becky Morse-Karzen of the University of Mary Washington.
Berckes and Menezes return to action Monday for a semifinal match with Siobhan Finicane and Becca Lange of Pomona-Pitzer.
Amherst and Pomona are no strangers this season, as the Lord Jeffs earned a 7-2 victory over their semifinal pairing Mar. 23, 2007. In doubles action, Menezes and Berckes defeated Finicane and Jen Kaswick, 8-3. Berckes faced Lange in the #2 singles match and cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win, while Finicane defeated Menezes in the #1 match, 6-2, 6-3.
Menezes took part in the 2006 NCAA doubles tournament as well, but dropped a very tight first-round match to a pair from Carnegie Mellon University.
