Jeffs Cruise to 9-0 Win over Colby

April 14, 2007

WATERVILLE, ME – The Amherst College women’s tennis team cruised to a 9-0 win over host Colby College, as the Lord Jeffs improved to 6-3 this spring. All six singles matches resulted in straight-set wins for Amherst, while none of the three Amherst doubles pairs surrendered more than three points.

The six Jeffs who took part in doubles victories split up to earn six singles wins, with juniors Monica Snyder (Newton, MA) and Laura Stein (Rockport, ME) and senior co-captain Katie Hudson (Los Altos, CA) each taking 12 straight games in their respective matches. First-year Brittany Berckes (Secaucus, NJ) and junior Jenn Murphy (Simsbury, CT) each took their first set 6-0 before taking their second set 6-1.

Junior Alicia Menezes (Staten Island, NY) was involved with the closest match of the day, picking up a 7-6 (7-1) win in her first set before her opponent was forced to retire due to injury.
