Jeffs Return Home After 6-3 Win at Redlands
March 24, 2007
POMONA, CA – The 6th-ranked Amherst College women’s tennis team defeated #16 University of Redlands this afternoon to improve to 3-2 for the spring season. The victory was the third consecutive win for the Lord Jeffs, who return to campus to face a tough NESCAC slate in the next few weeks.
After dropping the first two matches of the season to tough west coast opposition, Amherst has rebounded nicely with a trio of convincing wins over Claremont, Pomona and now Relands. The Lord Jeffs were forced to alter their line-up during the first week of their trip due to injuries and travel complications, but has since bounced back nicely, and should be back to their powerhouse status quickly.
Amherst first-year Brittany Berckes (Secaucus, NJ) improved her doubles record to an impressive 4-1 mark this season, and has paired with a few different teammates for wins in the top spot. Senior co-captain Katie Hudson (Los Altos, CA) picked up another win in the five spot for Amherst, defeating her counterpart in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.
Amherst returns to action on Wednesday when they play host to Wesleyan University at 4 p.m.
