Jeffs Drop Pomona 7-2 for Second Consecutive Win

March 23, 2007

CLAREMONT, CA – The Amherst College women’s tennis team picked up its second consecutive win of the spring by beating host Pomona-Pitzer College in Claremont, CA this afternoon. Amherst defeated their 14th-ranked opposition 7-2 to improve to 2-2 on the season.

Amherst swept the doubles slate against Pomona, and for the first time all spring, the Jeffs have had their preferred pairings together with everyone healthy. This could spell danger for upcoming NESCAC opponents, as Amherst had great success in the double’s ranks last fall.

Despite dropping the No.1 and 6 spots, Amherst swept the middle of the pack, with senior co-captain Katie Hudson (Los Altos, CA) picking up a tough win in the five hole. Hudson edged Olivia Muesge 7-5 in the first set, but dropped the second set 0-6. In a super tiebreaker third set, Hudson played to a gutsy 12-10 mark for the win.

Amherst will play Redlands this afternoon before returning home for to resume spring classes and the NESCAC schedule.
