October 23, 2006

AMHERST, MA - Amherst College senior tri-captain Piper Crowell (San Rafael, CA) was named the women’s soccer NESCAC Player of the Week after anchoring her team in two conference victories, marking the first Lord Jeff to receive the honor this season.

Crowell recorded nine saves in a 2-0 win against Conn. College, picking up her third solo shutout of the season, followed by ten saves in a win over NESCAC archrival Wesleyan, including a crucial save against a point-blank shot in the final seconds of play to preserve the 2-1 victory.  Crowell leads the NESCAC in goals against average (0.62) and is third in save percentage (0.885).

With the two wins last week, Amherst clinched the regular season NESCAC title, currently standing undefeated at 7-0-1 in NESCAC play.

The Jeffs return to action Saturday in a NESCAC match-up with Little Three rival Williams College at 11:00 a.m. on Hitchcock Field, where Crowell will hope to lead her team to an undefeated finish in NESCAC play.
