Jeffs Beat Conn. College at Home, 2-0

October 18, 2006

AMHERST, MA – The Amherst College Lord Jeffs beat the Camels of Conn. College this afternoon in a rare mid-week NESCAC match-up, 2-0. While Amherst posted their fifth shutout win of the season, Connecticut looked dangerous all day, forcing Amherst senior co-captain Piper Crowell (San Rafael, CA) to make nine saves in net.

Amherst looked as if they would score early and often in the first five minutes, but Conn. College matched their intensity and their shot count, as each team recorded 13 shots in the game.

Amherst broke the scoreless tie in the 29th minute when senior co-captain Lesley Pruzansky (Saratoga, CA) was set free on the right side of the 18-yard box, and unleashed a powerful far post shot, which Conn. College keeper Jenna Ross (Longmeadow, MA) was barely able to keep out of the net. The Jeffs leading scorer Amy Armstrong (Avon, CT) was there for the rebound to punch home her eighth goal of the season, to give Amherst the 1-0 lead.

The Camels made a halftime change in goal, putting in sophomore Sarah Beaudoin (Norwich, CT) who was able to turn away three second half Jeff shots. She was beaten in the 78th minute when first year Cami Farkas (Cambridge, MA) let loose on a 25 yard laser to the far corner.

The Jeffs move to 9-1-1 (6-0-1 NESCAC) on the season and remain undefeated in conference play, and at the top of the standings. They return to action Saturday for a NESCAC match-up with Little Three rival Wesleyan University at 11:00 a.m.
