Jeffs Blowout Polar Bears on the Road

September 30, 2006

BRUNSWICK, ME – The Amherst College women’s soccer team shutout the Bowdoin Polar Bears in blowout fashion on Saturday morning, winning 4-0. The Jeffs posted their third shutout on the year, and moved to 6-1-1 (3-0-1 NESCAC).

The Jeffs came out of the gates firing on all cylinders, and controlled the ball from start to finish, although they did not break the scoreless tie until the second half. “It was the best start we have had all season,” said head coach Jen Hughes, “we really came out strong.”

Early into the second half forward Amy Armstrong (Avon, CT) opened the floodgates for the Jeffs, when she banged home a cross from junior Katie Coffey (Florence, MA). Shortly after the first goal, first year Meg Murphy (Springfield, MA) punched home a loose ball off a corner kick, while Heather Nowak (New Haven, CT) and Mary Marvel (Williamsburg, MA) recorded the assists.

The Jeffs third goal came off the foot of Coffey, as she slotted a pass from senior co-captain Lesley Pruzansky (Saratoga, CA) into the far post from six yards out.  Nowak finished off the rout with a blast from 20 yards into the far bar, as the Jeffs cruised to four second half goals.

The goal keeping tandem of senior co-captain Piper Crowell (San Rafael, CA) and Lili Ferguson (Winnetka, IL) combined for the shutout win.

The Lord Jeffs return to action next Saturday, October 7 at Middlebury for a Noon kick-off.
