Jeffs Win in Rain at Springfield, 2-0
AMHERST, MA – The Amherst College women’s soccer team moved to 4-0 as they won their non-conference match-up against Springfield College 2-0 on Tuesday evening. While the weather was anything but perfect, the Jeffs execution was just that, as they dictated the run of play for the entire game, and found the result they came for.
Before scoring both their goals in the first half, the Jeffs rattled the frame 4 times in the first twenty minutes of play. Senior forward Amy Armstrong (Avon, CT) found the goal after a pass from junior striker Katie Coffey (Florence, MA) in the 23rd minute. Just three minutes later, senior co-captain Lesley Pruzansky (Saratoga, CA) fed sophomore Stephanie Yesnik (Arlington, VA) for an insurance tally.
The Jeffs kept attacking the Springfield defense, but were unable to tack on any more scores, and the game ended with in a two-goal shutout win. Senior co-captain Piper Crowell (San Rafael, CA) had one save to record her second shutout of the season, as goalie substitute Lili Ferguson (Winnetka, IL) helped in the effort win 12 minutes of action.
The Jeffs take the field again on Thursday at non-conference foe Smith College at 4:30 p.m.
