Both Teams Place Second at Tufts Invite

MEDFORD, MA – Senior All-America co-captain Shauneen Garrahan (Fairfax Station, VA) captured second place individually to lead the Amherst College women’s cross country team to a second-place finish at the Tufts University Invitational on Saturday. The Amherst men, led by sophomore Harrison Lakehomer (Eugene, OR), placed second as well.
On the women’s side, junior Heather Wilson (Danvers, MA), first-year Sophia Galleher (Denver, CO) and sophomore Elise Tropiano (Plainview, NY), finished sixth, seventh and ninth, respectively. Junior Laura Mortimer (Jackson, MS) crossed the line 10th, while sophomore Caitlin McDermott-Murphy (Newton, MA) and first-year Rachel Cameron (Grand Rapids, MI) followed closely in 11th and 14th.
On the men’s side, Lakehomer raced to a third-place showing, only 20 seconds behind meet champion Steve Monsulick of Bates College. Sophomore Daniel Murner (Crestwood, KY) and junior Tomas Morrissey (Astoria, OR) followed just seconds behind Murner, nabbing fourth and fifth, respectively. Junior Mike Harbus (New York, NY), senior Cooper Knowlton (Montclair, NJ), sophomore Peter Foote (Shelburne, VT) and senior Robert Boley (Mount Pleasant, MI) rounded out the top seven for the men.
Both squads return to action Saturday, Oct. 7 at the New England Open in Boston.
