Jeffs Pick Up Gutsy Win at Colby 5-4

April 14, 2007

WATERVILLE, ME – The Amherst College men’s tennis team picked up a gutsy come-from-behind win at Colby College this afternoon 5-4. Amherst dropped all three of the doubles matches in very tight results, but bounced back to take five of the six singles points.

Amherst entered the afternoon hoping to break a two-match losing skid, the longest of the year for the Lord Jeffs. The visiting squad did not have the start to the match that it was hoping for, dropping the three doubles results by a combined five games.

The Lord Jeffs used the long doubles matches as a great warm-up for the solo bouts to follow. Amherst top-seed Zack Lerner (Scarsdale, NY) won his match against Brody Saunders in three sets after dropping the opening stanza 3-6. Senior co-captain Karti Subramanian (Bethesda, MD) picked up another victory today, playing up a spot in the four hole.

Amherst won five of the six singles slates, losing only the second seed to Zach Schuman of Colby. Amherst returns to action tomorrow at home when the Jeffs are scheduled to face NYU at 10 a.m. and Springfield College at 1:30 p.m. (weather permitting).
