Jeffs Pick up 6-3 Win Over Wesleyan for Third Straight Victory
March 29, 2007
MIDDLETOWN, CT – The Amherst College men’s tennis team earned its third straight win of the spring season, picking up a 6-3 conference win over Wesleyan University just one day after toppling the University of Connecticut. The Lord Jeffs move to 6-1 with the win, while the loss drops the Cardinals to 4-3 in spring play.
The match was moved indoors after outdoor conditions proved to be too windy to play, but Amherst’s top three players did not seem to mind the change. Zack Lerner (Scarsdale, NY), Tristan Biesecker (Stanwood, WA) and Karti Subramanian (Bethesda, MD) each won their respective singles matches, while Lerner teamed up with Tal Avrahami (Riverdale, NY) to take the first doubles match, 8-3.
Subramanian and Biesecker teamed up to take care of business in the second doubles match, 8-5, while Geoff Schwartz (Dallas, TX) and Dan Gonzalez (West Roxbury, MA) cruised to an 8-1 win to give the Jeffs the clean sweep in doubles play.
Despite falling in the first three singles spots, the Cardinals picked up wins in the fourth, fifth and sixth spots, but it wasn’t enough to stop red-hot Amherst. The Jeffs return to action Saturday for a home match-up with Bates College at 2 p.m.
