Amherst's Rauh Named NESCAC Rookie of the Week

October 30, 2006

AMHERST, MA – Amherst College first-year running back Aaron Rauh (Hudson, OH) was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Rookie of the Week after his outstanding performance this past Saturday against Tufts University. Rauh was the heart and soul of the Jeffs’ running game on Saturday, rushing for 133 yards on 14 carries, an average of 9.5 yards-per-carry, with a long of 64 yards, leading Amherst to a 24-6 victory over the Jumbos.

Through six weeks of the 2006 season, Rauh leads his team in yards-per-carry (5.0) and rushing touchdowns (3). Rauh combines with sophomore Eric NeSmith (Newark, NJ) for a young, deadly combination in Amherst’s running game that is currently second in the NESCAC in rushing offense (135 yards-per-game). NeSmith is fifth in the NESCAC in rushing yards-per-game (58.2), while Rauh sits tied for seventh (55.7).

With Rauh’s Rookie of the Week honor, a member of the Amherst College football team has now received a weekly NESCAC honor in each of the past three weeks.

Rauh returns to the field this Saturday where he will look to lead the Jeffs to a NESCAC victory on the road against a very good Trinity College team that leads the NESCAC in rushing defense, allowing just 51.8 yards-per-game. Game time is set for 12:30 p.m.
