Sophomore linebacker Guy Matisis is the first Lord Jeff to receive Defensive Player of the Week honors this season

Amherst's Matisis Named NESCAC Defensive Player of the Week

AMHERST, MA – Amherst College sophomore lineman Guy Matisis (Hingham, MA) was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Jeffs on the road to their first shutout of the season in a 23-0 victory over NESCAC archrival Wesleyan University. 

Matisis finished the day with seven total tackles, including two and a half for a combined loss of 20 yards, while adding two solo sacks for a combined loss of 18 yards.  The Jeffs defense held Wesleyan to just 23 rushing yards on the day, and remains first in the nation in points allowed per game with 4.6.

This is the second consecutive week an Amherst player has received Player of the Week honors, and the third time this season.  Matisis is the first Lord Jeff to be named NESCAC Defensive Player of the Week this season. 

Matisis returns to the field this Saturday where he will look to lead the Jeffs to a NESCAC victory at home against Tufts University.  Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
