Sophomore Caki Guinee scored her first goal of the season in a 4-0 blowout of Babson College

Jeffs Blow Out Babson, 4-0

October 12, 2006

AMHERST, MA – The Amherst College field hockey team blew out non-conference opponent Babson College at Hitchcock Field this afternoon, 4-0. The Jeffs moved to 3-6 (0-5 NESCAC) on the season, while dropping the Beavers to 6-7 on the year.

The Lord Jeffs started their high scoring day off early, when junior midfielder Christa Porcaro (Pelham, NY) assisted on a Caki Guinee (Baltimore, MD) goal after just five minutes of play. The tally was Guinee’s first of the season, and Porcaro’s first assist on the year as well.

Ten minutes later, junior midfielder Sarah Tracy (Sturbridge, MA) broke the game wide-open with her first points of the season on an unassisted tally.  Coming out of halftime with a 2-0 lead, the Jeffs kept the pressure high on Babson keeper Elissa Slovin (Andover, MA), who turned away 15 Amherst shots on the day.

Amherst netted two second half goals, the first coming with 21:45 left in the second half when junior defender Lauren Benson (Hamilton, NJ) assisted on a first year Molly Malloy (Stamford, CT) goal. The final Amherst goal was scored off another Porcaro assist, when senior co-captain Rachel Carr-Harris (Pleasantville, NY) punched home a loose ball in front of the Babson net with just nineteen seconds left.

In her first start of the season, sophomore goalie Jane Mostue (Lincoln, MA) posted a shutout win, and had seven saves.

The Jeffs return to action this weekend when visiting NESCAC rival Colby College visits Hitchcock Field on Saturday. The start time is set for 11:00 a.m.
