Jeffs Lose in Overtime at Bowdoin
September 30, 2006
BRUNSWICK, ME – The Amherst College field hockey team had a 2-0 lead late in today’s contest at NESCAC rival Bowdoin College, only to lose 3-2 in overtime and drop to 2-5 (NESCAC, 0-4) on the season. With the win Bowdoin improves to 5-1 (NESCAC, 2-1).
Amherst looked to be well on their way to their third victory of the season as first-year forward Molly Molloy (Stamford, CT) recorded the first goal of her young Amherst career with 16:42 to go in the first half, giving the Jeffs the early 1-0 lead. With 30:20 left in the match, senior co-captain Rachel Carr-Harris (Pleasantville, NY) notched her first goal of the season on a nifty pass from Molloy, putting the Jeffs up 2-0 and giving some breathing room to Amherst.
However, the Polar Bears of Bowdoin kept their composure with time winding down and rallied during the last ten minutes. Senior co-captain Burgess LePage (Cumberland, ME) finally put Bowdoin on the board with 9:46 to go; a mere seven minutes later junior Hillary Hoffman (Greenwood Village, CO) found the cage again evening the score at two apiece. The final two minutes remained scoreless and overtime ensued, during which LePage notched her second score of the day to give Bowdoin the 3-2 win.
Amherst has a rare week off, and will return rejuvenated when they take the field next Saturday at NESCAC foe Middlebury College at 12:00 p.m.
