Jeffs Lose Heartbreaker at Buzzer
September 23, 2006
AMHERST, MA – Despite strong play from senior co-captain Rachel Carr-Harris (Pleasantville, NY) and junior midfielder Christa Porcaro (Pelham, NY), the Amherst College field hockey team dropped a heartbreaker this afternoon to visiting NESCAC foe Tufts University 1-0, bringing their record to 1-4 (NESCAC, 1-3). Tufts improved to 3-2 on the season (NESCAC, 2-1) with the win.
The Jeffs fought hard all afternoon, carrying a 0-0 stalemate through 69 minutes of play when senior forward Kathleen Martin (Cumberland, ME) put in the rebound off a beautiful diving save by Amherst keeper Katherine Boucher (Washington, D.C.) to give the Jumbos the 1-0 lead. Tufts held on through the final minute of play to secure the victory.
Boucher finished an otherwise stellar day with four saves, while Tufts keeper Marilyn Duffy-Cabana (Amesbury, MA) notched seven in the shutout.
Amherst returns to action Wednesday as they take on non-conference foe Mt. Holyoke College at Hitchcock Field at 4:30 p.m.
