HARTFORD, CT - The Amherst College volleyball team outlasted host Trinity College for a 3-2 conference victory on Tuesday night, snapping a seven-match Bantam win streak and improving to 16-9 (5-3 NESCAC). Trinity fell to 16-9 (6-3 NESCAC) on the season.
The Bantams managed to answer each Jeff victory, forcing a five-game marathon, and a 15-15 tie in the final frame. However, a block by Amherst first-year setter Sara Heller (La Canada, CA) and a kill by sophomore Whitney Kouvaris (Jacksonville, FL) secured the Jeffs' win, 30-25, 27-30, 30-28, 24-30, 17-15. Sophomore Jaclyn DeMais (Hillsdale, NJ) led the way for Amherst, notching 27 kills and tallying 28 digs, four blocks and two aces, while rookie Hannah Wirth (Pacific Palisades, CA) chipped in 12 kills and four blocks. Junior Kristin Quinn (Pacific Palisades, CA) added nine kills and Heller racked up 41 assists, 14 digs and 3 blocks.
Sophomore Erika Heinecken (Larkspur, CA) paced the Bantams, recording a team-high 19 kills, while classmate Emily Moore (Winfield, IL) dished out 48 assists. Sophomore Vanessa Forero (Bedford, NY) tallied 11 kills and six blocks and senior tri-captain Lucy Hollis (Mount Kisco, NY) added 10 kills and 15 digs. Sophomore libero Kathleen Lenz (Cheshire, CT) led the defense with 18 digs.
Amherst will close out its regular-season slate Friday and Saturday against conference rivals Wesleyan and Connecticut College at a NESCAC Quad hosted by Wesleyan.
