Jeffs Dominate Westfield State, 3-0

AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College volleyball team displayed a dominating performance on Tuesday night, pounding visiting non-conference foe Westfield State College, 30-20, 30-18, 30-15. Junior Kristin Quinn (Pacific Palisades, CA) paced the assault, posting 15 kills and a .333 hitting percentage as the Jeffs improved to 11-6, while Westfield St. dropped to 9-7.

Amherst wavered in the opening game, going point-for-point with the Owls en route to a 13-13 deadlock. However the Jeff offense picked up behind five early kills from first-year Hannah Wirth (Pacific Palisades, CA) and Amherst cruised on to the 30-20 win.

The Jeffs started slow in the second game as well, falling behind 13-11, but after a timeout the Jeffs reeled off a 19-5 rally to finish the game. Quinn led the onslaught with eight kills in the game.

Amherst picked up right where it left off in the final tilt, needing only 27 total attacks to register the 30-15 win. Rookies Alison Munzer (Los Angeles, CA) and Claire Holton-Basaldua (San Rafael, CA) both converted two-of-three attempts, while sophomore Whitney Kouvaris (Jacksonville, FL) tallied a trio of kills and Quinn posted four kills.

Kouvaris, Munzer and Wirth finished with nine kills apiece, and Holton-Basaldua posted a season-high six kills. Amherst rookie setter Sara Heller (La Canada, CA) had an outstanding match, dishing out 40 assists and tallying a team-high nine digs, while senior tri-captain Kate Raddock (Stamford, CT) added eight digs and five service aces and junior Laura Golden (Boca Raton, FL) and sophomore Julie Berkeley (Fullerton, CA) each posted seven digs.

Senior Lindsay Dalene (East Harland, CT) led Westfield St. with nine kills, while junior Elissa Genereux (Belchertown, MA) had 14 assists and eight digs.

Amherst returns to action Saturday at 1 p.m. at NESCAC rival Tufts University.
