Top-Seeded Women's Tennis Cruises By Bowdoin, 8-1

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – The third-ranked and top-seeded Amherst College women’s tennis team cruised by fourth-seeded Bowdoin College, 8-1, in the women’s tennis NESCAC Semifinals on Saturday morning. The Jeffs improve to 10-3 and move on to face second-seeded host Williams College, which advanced with a 5-4 win over No. 3 seed Middlebury College, in the NESCAC Championship finals tomorrow (Sunday) at noon.

Amherst dominated from the start, sweeping the doubles matches in fine fashion. The No. 1 and 3 doubles pairs sailed away with 8-3 and 8-5 wins, respectively, while sophomores Monica Snyder (Newton, MA) and Jen Murphy (Simsbury, CT) earned a hard-fought 9-8 victory over Bowdoin’s Christine D’Elia and Kristen Raymond at the No. 2 slot.

Snyder, senior co-captains Kristen Raverta (W. Springfield, MA) and Hadley Miller (N. Eaton, OH) and sophomore Alicia Menezes (Staten Island, NY) were all double winners for the Jeffs, as Amherst took five of six singles matches, the closest being a 4-6, 6-2, 10-3 win by Menezes over Polar Bear sophomore Kristen Raymond.
