Amherst Women First, Men Fourth at Tufts Cross Country Invitational

Medford, MA - Junior All-America Shauneen Garrahan (Fairfax Station, VA) captured her second victory of the season to lead the Amherst College women's cross country team to a first-place finish at the Tufts Cross Country Invitational on Saturday. The Amherst men, led by sophomore Tomas Morrissey (Astoria, OR) placed fourth.
On the women's side, Garrahan was followed by sophomores Heather Wilson (Danvers, MA) and Vanessa Sochat (Amherst, NH) and rookie Nicole Anderson (Kailua, HI), who finished sixth, 10th and 14th, respectively. First-year Zandra Walton (Wayne, PA) crossed the line in 21st, while sophomores Katie Moravec and Meg Ray followed closely in 23rd and 24th.
On the men's side, Morrissey raced to an 11th-place showing, 54 seconds behind meet champion Ryan Agnew (Spencer, MA) of Bentley College. First-year Harrison Lakehomer (Eugene, OR) and sophomore Mike Harbus (New York, NY) followed just seconds behind Harbus, nabbing 17th and 18th. Juniors Robert Boley (Mount Pleasant, MI), Rich Wilson (Columbus, OH) and Cooper Knowlton (Montclair, NJ) and senior co-captain Dave Schreiner (Manhattan Beach, CA) rounded out the top seven for the men.
Both squads return to action Friday, Oct. 7 at the New England Open in Boston, Mass.
