Jeffs Fall at Colby, 2-1

WATERVILLE, ME - The Amherst College field hockey team fell at conference rival Colby College on Saturday afternoon, 2-1. The Jeffs fell to 5-5 (2-3 NESCAC) on the season, while the Mules improved to 4-6 (1-6 NESCAC).
Amherst took an early lead when senior tri-captain Katherine Skrivan (St. Louis, MO) found the back of the cage off a dish from sophomore Christa Porcaro (Pelham, NY) just four minutes into play. Colby responded at the 13:20-mark when rookie Frazer Humes (Littleton, CO) notched her first collegiate goal, in unassisted fashion to knot the score heading into the break.
The teams battled for nearly 33 scoreless minutes in the second stanza before the Mules tallied the game-winner at the 2:04-mark as senior tri-captain Nikki Stadelman (East Falmouth, MA) knocked home a feed from sophomore midfielder MaryClaire McGovern (Stowe, VT) to clinch the victory.
Amherst sophomore netminder Kathleen Boucher (Washington, DC) finished with eight saves in a losing effort, while Colby counterpart Jamie Enos (South Hamilton, MA) posted seven stops in the victory.
The Jeffs return to action Wednesday at 4 p.m. at against visiting NESCAC rival Middlebury College.
