Jeffs Post 2-0 Shutout Win at Mt. Holyoke

S. HADLEY, MA - The Amherst College field hockey team posted at 2-0 shutout victory over non-conference host Mt. Holyoke College on Wednesday, snapping the Lyons' four-game win streak and improving to 4-2 on the season. Senior tri-captain Erin O'Hare (Bowdoinham, ME) and sophomore Carolyn Shea (Summit, NJ) each tallied goals in the win.

Shea broke the scoreless tie with just under four minutes left in the opening session, converting a feed from classmate Christa Porcaro (Pelham, NY) for the 1-0 edge. Amherst added an insurance goal at the 19:41-mark of the second frame as junior Rachel Carr-Harris (Pleasantville, NY) corralled a penalty corner and found O'Hare for the score.

Amherst sophomore goalkeeper Kathleen Boucher (Washington, DC) was outstanding in goal, tallying 19 saves en route to her second shutout of the season, while first-year Catherine Calvert (Lawrenceville, NJ) bolstered the defense with a defensive save. Senior Jenny Wing (Yarmouth, ME) posted 15 saves in a losing effort as Mt. Holyoke fell to 6-2.

Amherst returns to action Saturday at 11 a.m. against visiting 13th-ranked NESCAC rival Bowdoin College.
