Jeffs Fall at Tufts, 3-0
September 24, 2005
Medford, MA - The Amherst College field hockey team suffered a 3-0 loss at NESCAC rival Tufts University on Saturday. Tufts improved to 3-2 (2-1 NESCAC), while the Jeffs dropped to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
The Jumbos took the lead for good just 4:18 into play, when rookie Brittany Holiday (Wellesley, MA) scored unassisted on Jeff sophomore goalkeeper Kathleen Boucher (Washington, DC). Tufts continued to pressure and notched another goal five minutes later, thanks to an unassisted Jeanne Grabowski (Pleasantville, NY) score. The Jeff defense managed to hold off the Jumbo attack for the remainder of the half.
Amherst turned up the heat after the break, registering 12 shots, but couldn't slip one past Jumbos junior goalkeeper Marilyn Duffy-Cabana (Amesbury, MA). Tufts added a final score with just eight minutes remaining, when senior Erika Goodwin (Whitehouse Station, NJ) found the cage.
Boucher finished with twelve saves, while Duffy-Cabana posted seven in 70 minutes of play.
Amherst returns to action at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday at non-conference foe Mount Holyoke College.
