Jeffs Earn No. 3 Seed in NESCAC Championship Tournament After 2-1 Weekend

MIDDLEBURY, VT - The Amherst College volleyball team wrapped up its regular-season and conference schedule with 3-0 wins over Hamilton College and host Middlebury College and a narrow 3-2 loss to archrival Williams College over the weekend, finishing 22-6 overall and 8-2 in conference play and earning the No. 3 seed in the NESCAC Championship Tournament. The Jeffs open tournament play against sixth-seeded Bates College Friday night at 8 p.m. at top-seeded host Williams.

Amherst rookie outside hitter Jaclyn DeMais (Hillsdale, NJ) led the way with 15 kills and 14 digs in Friday night’s win over Middlebury. Senior co-captain Nikki Davidson (Los Angeles, CA) tallied 10 kills and 10 digs, while reigning NESCAC Player of the Week Kristin Quinn (Los Angeles, CA) posted nine kills and four blocks. Senior co-captain Annie Hoeksma (Los Angeles, CA) dished out 30 assists and juniors Kate Raddock (Stamford, CT) and Sara Bruggeman (Boulder, CO) excelled defensively with 21 digs and five blocks, respectively.

DeMais was outstanding against Williams as well, racking up 20 kills and 20 digs in the narrow loss. Hoeksma had a great all-around game, posting 40 assists, eight kills and 10 digs, while Quinn filled up the box score with 13 kills, nine digs and five blocks. Davidson chipped in 10 kills and 14 digs, and Raddock paced the Jeff defense with 26 digs.

The Jeffs made short work of Hamilton, surrendering no more than 17 points in a game. Bruggeman posted a team-high 12 kills, and Davidson and Quinn had 10 and eight kills, respectively. Hoeksma dealt 22 assists, while Raddock chipped in 16 digs and DeMais had 11 digs as well.
