KALAMAZOO, MI - Amherst College junior Kristen Raverta (W. Springfield, MA/W. Springfield HS) reached the NCAA Division III women’s tennis singles championships semifinals over the weekend at Kalamazoo (Mich.) College. She posted straight-set victories to march through the first three rounds of play, but fell in the round of four to second-seeded Liz Bondi of DePauw University.

Raverta opened tournament play with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Katie Frick of the University of California at Santa Cruz, and followed with a matching 6-3, 6-2 second-round win over Carthage College’s Kelly Mikkila. Raverta rolled in the quarterfinals, downing Jackie Medillo of Trinity (Tex.) University, 6-2, 6-2. However, Raverta’s run would end there as Bondi won in straight sets 6-0, 6-1. Bondi advanced to face top-seeded Lindsay Hagerman of Washington & Lee University in the national championship match on Monday.

Amherst (12-3) earned third-place in the NCAA Division III Tournament, suffering a 5-3 loss to eventual national champion Emory University, who won its third straight NCAA Championship, but rebounding to top NESCAC rival Middlebury College 5-4 in the third-place match.
