Muller Notches Game Winner as 21st-Ranked Jeffs Clinch No. 2 Seed in NESCAC Tourney with 1-0 Win Over Williams
October 30, 2004
AMHERST, MA - Sophomore Jenny Muller (Andover, MA) tallied the game winner in the 69th minute as the Amherst women’s soccer team claimed sole possession of the Little Three title and clinched the No. 2 seed and a first-round home game in the NESCAC Postseason Championship Tournament with a 1-0 win over visiting conference and Little Three rival Williams College on Saturday. The defending NESCAC Champion Jeffs (9-1-4/6-0-3 NESCAC), who extended their winning streak to six games and stretched their unbeaten streak to nine games, open postseason play tomorrow (Sunday) at 12:30 p.m. against visiting seventh-seeded Connecticut College.
Muller won the game with her third goal of the season, finding the bottom left corner of the net with a left-footed blast off a nifty feed from senior Adrienne Showler (Ottawa, Ontario). Amherst sophomore goalie Piper Crowell (San Rafael, CA) turned away five Williams shots en route to her fourth shutout of the season. Williams (7-5-2/3-5-1) sophomore netminder Sarah Ginsburg (Dallas, TX) finished with two saves in defeat.
