Amherst Women's Cross Country Third, Men Sixth at NESCAC Championships

WATERVILLE, ME - Paced by top performances from All-Americas Carter Hamill (Richmond, VA) and Shauneen Garrahan (Fairfax Station, VA), the Amherst College womenís cross country team captured third place at the NESCAC Championships, held at Colby College on Saturday, while the men, led for the second straight week by first-year phenom Tomas Morrissey (Astoria, OR), took sixth.

Hamill, a senior co-captain, covered the 5k course in 17:58.66, good for third place and her fourth consecutive All-NESCAC award. Garrahan, the defending NESCAC champion, again garnered First-Team All-NESCAC honors with a fifth-place showing, while first-year Kim Partee (Brentwood, TN) finished 14th and earned All-NESCAC recognition as well. Junior Ginger Polich (Ironwood, MI) crossed the line in 28th, while first-year Katie Moravec (Chico, CA) finished 48th.

On the menís side, Morrissey earned All-NESCAC honors and 11th place with a time of 25:51.24 in the 8k race. Senior co-captains Matt Katz (Tallahassee, FL) and Dave Molina (Cleveland, OH) placed 16th and 23rd, respectively, while sophomore Richard Wilson (Columbus, OH) took 43rd and senior Jack Morgan (Las Vegas, NV) finished 46th.

Tufts University won the menís team title, while Neal Holtschulte of Williams took home the individual crown. Williamsí Caroline Cretti crossed the line first in the womenís race, leading the Ephs to a first-place tie with Middlebury.

Amherst returns to action this weekend at the ECAC Championships, held at the Tufts University Farm Course in Grafton, Massachusetts.
