Amherst's Rilla Earns Bid to NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Championships

AMHERST, MA - Amherst College junior Josh Rilla (Westboro, MA/St. Johnís) earned a bid to the NCAA Menís Tennis Singles Championships, to be held May 21-23 at the University of California at Santa Cruz. Amherstís top singles player, Rilla led the Jeffs to a 10-6 record and a trip to the NCAA Northeast Regional Finals this spring.

Rilla enters the tournament with a record of 8-5 and earned All-NESCAC honors after reaching the ďAĒ flight semifinals at the conference championship meet. He returns to the NCAA Championships for the second straight year after teaming with classmate Danny Babkes (Baltimore, MD) for a berth in the doubles tournament last season. Both claimed All-NESCAC plaudits as sophomores after winning the ďAĒ flight doubles crown at the 2004 NESCAC Championships.

Tournament seedings for the 32-player field have yet to be announced. The selection of individuals for the championships is based on won-lost record, strength of schedule and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.
