Jeffs Suffer 5-2 Loss to Williams

AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College menís tennis team suffered a 5-2 defeat to visiting archrival Williams College on Saturday. Junior Josh Rilla (Westboro, MA) and sophomore Lenny Lepner (Tartu, Estonia) picked up the lone Amherst victories as the Jeffs fell to 6-3, while Williams evened its record at 6-6.

Rilla posted a hard-fought 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 victory over Williams junior Scott MacKenzie (Lafayette, CA) in No. 1 singles play, while Lepner blasted Eph senior Tim White (Annapolis, MD), 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 3 singles match. Junior Danny Babkes (Baltimore, MD) was the only other Jeff to force a third set, but fell in the No. 2 singles tilt to Williams junior Jeff Kivitz (Philadelphia, PA), 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.

The Ephs swept all three double matches, winning in 8-3, 8-6 and 8-6, respectively.

Amherst returns to action tomorrow (Sunday) at 10 a.m. against visiting NYU.
