Gannon Named NESCAC Player of the Week

AMHERST, MA - Amherst College’s Joe Gannon (Hanson, MA/Noble & Greenough) was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Men’s Soccer Player of the Week on Monday. The junior forward from Hanson, Mass. scored the lone goal in the 67th minute of Saturday’s 1-0 conference win at 12th-ranked Bowdoin College, as the Jeffs remained undefeated at 7-0 overall and 3-0 in NESCAC play. He also assisted on both goals in Wednesday’s 2-1 non-league victory over visiting Springfield College.

With three goals and five assists on the season, Gannon leads the NESCAC in assist per game (0.71) and ranks third in scoring (1.57 pts/gm) and 10th in goals per game (0.43). He was the team’s second leading scorer with 14 points on six goals and two assists as a sophomore after earning NESCAC Rookie of the Year, Second-Team All-NESCAC and Fourth-Team NSCAA/adidas All-New England honors in 2002.

Amherst returns to action this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at NESCAC foe Middlebury College.
