Ladd Named NESCAC Offensive Player of the Week

November 15, 2004

AMHERST, MA - Amherst College senior quad-captain tailback Fletcher Ladd (Amherst, NH/Souhegan) was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Offensive Player of the Week on Monday for the second time this season and the fourth time in his career. Ladd rushed 34 times for 179 yards and a touchdown as Amherst (6-2) clamed sole possession of the Little Three title with Saturday’s 13-10 Homecoming win over visiting archrival Williams. He finished the season with a conference-best 1,137 rushing yards, upping his career total to a school-record 3,817 yards.

Ladd and classmate Rob Walsh (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) were the lone representatives from the NESCAC named to the 2004 College Division Academic All-District Football Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) last week, as well. As first-team selections, Ladd and Walsh are automatically placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.

Ladd also earned First-Team Academic All-District and Second-Team Academic All-America honors as a junior and is the only Amherst player ever to crack the career 3,000-yard rushing plateau. He is a three-time All-NESCAC selection, finishing second in the conference in rushing in both 2003 (111.8 ypg) and 2002 (143.5 ypg) and second in the NESCAC in rushing touchdowns (7) as a rookie in 2001.
