Jeffs Snap Losing Streak with 1-0 Overtime Win at Conn. College

FROM A CONNECTICUT COLLEGE RELEASE

October 24, 2004

NEW LONDON, CT - The Amherst College field hockey team snapped a five-game losing streak with a 1-0 overtime victory at NESCAC opponent Connecticut College on Sunday. Junior Katherine Skrivan (St. Louis, MO) scored her second goal of the weekend and sixth of the season with just 4:02 remaining in the extra session as the Jeffs improved to 5-7 overall and 3-5 in conference play.

The Jeffs nearly ended the marathon twice, but Conn. College senior Katie Roe (Bethesda, MD) posted a pair of key defensive saves to preserve the scoreless tie. Roe sacrificed her body and prevented an Amherst score near the 11:20-mark of the second half, and saved another Jeff scoring opportunity just over five minutes into the extra frame. Skrivan was finally able to break free on a two-on-one with sophomore Rachel Carr-Harris (Pleasantville, NY), who dished out the game-winner, her seventh assist of the season.

Senior goalie K.C. Cosentino (Greenwich, CT) posted her eighth career shutout, collecting 11 saves in the Jeffs’ first road win of the year, while junior Ashley Kenerson (Wenham, MA) was credited with seven stops as the Camels fell to 4-9 (1-7 NESCAC)

Amherst returns to action Saturday at 11 a.m. against visiting NESCAC and Little Three archrival Williams College.
