Jeffs Suffer 4-2 Defeat at Wesleyan

October 23, 2004

MIDDLETOWN, CT - Despite second-half scores from junior Katherine Skrivan (St. Louis, MO) and sophomore Rachel Carr-Harris (Pleasantville, NY), the Amherst College field hockey team suffered its fifth straight loss, a 4-2 decision at NESCAC and Little Three rival Wesleyan University on Saturday. The Cardinals improve to 10-2 overall and 5-2 in conference play, while the Jeffs fell to 4-7 (2-5 NESCAC).

Wesleyan used first-half goals by senior Louisa Mook (Newcastle, ME) and sophomore Molly Adams (Wilbraham, MA) to build a 2-0 lead at the break, and senior Jenn Wasserman (Branford, CT) netted the game-winning score 8:40 into the second session to secure the victory for the Cardinals. The Jeffs battled back as first-year Kira Stepanoff-Dargery (Bronxville, NY) dished out her first career assist at the 18:46-mark, finding Skrivan for the score, and Skrivan fed Carr-Harris just over four minutes later to pull within one. Amherst would get no closer as Mook tallied her second score of the game in the final minute to put the game out of reach.

Senior K.C. Cosentino (Greenwich, CT) and first-year Kathleen Boucher (Washington, DC) split time in goal for Amherst, grabbing three saves apiece, while sophomore Caitlin Kelly (Midlothian, VA) collected a trio of saves for Wesleyan.

Amherst returns to action tomorrow (Sunday) at 1 p.m. at NESCAC foe Connecticut College.
