Entering her 18th season, head coach Sue Everden has molded the Amherst volleyball program into one of the finest in the nation, guiding the team to a 374-166 overall record entering the 2003 season, 14 postseason appearances, three consecutive NCAA Tournament berths (from 1998 to 2000) and back-to-back NESCAC Championships (1999 & 2000), twice earning NESCAC and New England Region Coach of the Year honors along the way. After graduating from Slippery Rock University, Everden completed her master's degree at Springfield College and has spent the next 24 years coaching a variety of sports at several colleges, including Clarkson University, the United States Coast Guard Academy and her ongoing tenure at Amherst. In addition to her duties on the volleyball court, she guided the Amherst softball team to four consecutive postseason appearances (from 1999 to 2002) and has twice been named NESCAC Softball Coach of the Year in just five seasons as head coach. Everden also serves as an assistant athletic director for the college.

Sue Everden's Career Coaching Record

Assistant coach Lynn Hersey enters her first season with the volleyball program, supplementing her primary duties as a women’s basketball assistant. On the basketball court, Hersey specializes in tutoring Amherst's point guards, among other responsibilities, thanks to a standout playing career at Division III power Plymouth State College. She was a four-year starting point guard at Plymouth State, earning team Rookie of the Year honors as a freshman and the college's Female Athlete of the Year award as a senior captain. Upon graduating in 2000 with a degree in sports medicine, the Dexter, Maine native began her professional career working for the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC), helping oversee championships, marketing and broadcast services. She then earned a master's degree in sport management at nearby UMass Amherst and, this past season, lent her expertise as a marketing consultant to the Springfield Spirit of the National Women's Basketball League. In the spring, Hersey assists head coach Sue Everden with the Amherst softball team.
